Quiet

I had a need to be quiet this past week... and that meant not putting anything on the blog... sorry for the disappearing act (if you even care at all?). I thought about posting something, I started to so many times, but never could complete a thought. This happens sometimes. I just had a need to be quiet, in my head and in my heart.

When I got back on blogger this morning, Donna had posted a poem called "The Quiet Place" that she had found and as I read it, I knew it was an echo from my own heart as well. Thanks for sharing it Donna, I hope you don't mind that I pass it on...

The Quiet Place

Within me is a need for quiet places;
For cool, green stretch of grass 'neth bending tree;
For lifting song of bird in leafy bower;
Relief, escape from life's complexity.

For freedom from the city's jangling noises;
Harsh clang of bell, the wearing stress and strain
Of walled-in places, with their myriad voices,'
Each taking toll of body, heart, and brain.

Give me the quiet of open spaces;
The benediction of the cool, sweet air;
The healing hush of eve; the blush of morning;
The day newborn, when life is sweet and fair.

Give me the ear to catch the still, small whisper,
"In quietness and confidence, be strong!"
Grant me the peace that passeth understanding
The strength to do the right -- to shun the wrong!

I got a lot of things figured out in this past week so once again I am thankful for the quiet and all that happens there: the difficult experiences that produce growth, the friends that are there for me no matter what, even if they don't know what exactly is going on, the power of prayer, convention, and that still small voice that suddenly becomes clear.
