Three (glorious) Years

Today is Josh and mine's three year anniversary. THREE YEARS! These past three years have been the most amazing, exciting, fun, and unexpected years of my life. I could not be more grateful for Josh and everything that we have been through together. I am more in love with him then ever and am so excited for our future together.

Josh and I met at Sunday morning meeting in Waimea, Hawaii on April 5, 2009. After meeting, everybody went to lunch at a local food court. I sat with Dad (who I was in Hawaii with, along with Grandma and Grandpa) and kept stealing glances over at the table where all the young people were seated at... Josh being one of them. He sat at the end of the table and I remember wishing that I had the courage to go sit next to them. Alas, I have never been anything but shy and so I remained sitting next to Dad, listening to him discuss iPhones with Keala and Terry.

After lunch, everybody stood and slowly made their way towards the exit. I was anxious to get going because lets face it, small talk is NOT my forte and I really wanted to get to the beach. As I waited awkwardly for Dad to finish his conversation and head to the car, I noticed that Grandpa was talking with that one guy that I had kept looking at. Deciding to take advantage of Grandpa's sociableness, I walked over to them. As I approached them, I was struck with how earnestly Josh was listening to Grandpa. "Hmmmm," I thought to myself, "Anyone who can look THAT sincerely interested in one of Grandpa's stories must be really nice." I called out to Grandpa, to tell him that it was time to go (yes, that was all I had the guts to say) and Grandpa immediately launched into telling me how Josh knew who Uncle Vern's (worker/minister) companion was and that he was going to get Josh's address so he could send him a companion photo, yada yada yada... but I barely heard what Grandpa was saying because at that instant Josh looked up and our eyes connected. If I close my eyes I can still see it perfectly as it was just a moment ago. It's one of those photographs in my memory that I hope never fades away. Because in that instant, when our eyes met, I knew, I just knew. It wasn't love at first sight, but it was a feeling of this guys is important, this guy is going to be important to me. And that was the start of everything.

Last month, Josh and I finally made it back to Waimea to visit his family and one of our first stops was that food court (for food of course). And I am so thankful that time has proved exactly how important Josh is to me...
